Athlete Nutrition: Meet Brianna Cope

Let’s take a moment to get to know Brianna Cope.
Q. For those of us who don’t know you, who is Brianna Cope?
A. I’m a professional surfer from the island of Kauai. I’m currently competing around the world on the World Surf League.
Q. What does being a Nuzest ambassador mean to you?
A. Being a Nuzest ambassador means representing a company and products that I truly believe in! Health and wellness is something I am very passionate about, and when I first tried Clean Lean Protein by Nuzest, I was hooked! Nuzest is very passionate about making high-quality products, and I’m very proud to be representing such a health-conscious company.
Q. How do you make healthy choices and avoid temptations?
A. I love eating healthy. It’s something I have always been passionate about and realized what foods worked well for me. I believe if I eat good, I’ll feel good! Food is our body's nutrients and it’s important to take care of our bodies. When I am having a craving or feel like having a cheat day, I think of a healthy alternative to what I’m craving! I love to cook, so making healthier desserts or treats can be a fun way to get creative. :)
Q. What is your favorite indulgence?
A. NadaMoo! Coconut milk ice cream or gluten-free cinnamon rolls. :)
Q. What is your favorite healthy snack?
A. I absolutely love fruits! I also make a snack called “pro-oats.” Its Nuzest protein mixed with chia seeds, gluten-free oats, and almond milk.
Q. When not in the water, how do you stay active and fit?
A. When I’m not in the water, I stay active by working out at least 5 days a week. I spend a lot of time in the gym working on my strength and conditioning. I’m very passionate about working out, and I believe the more time you put in at the gym will only make me become a better surfer.
Q. What is your favorite form of exercise (besides surfing)?
A. As a surfer, balance, strength, and flexibility are so important. It plays a crucial role in my sport. Squatting and weight training has really improved my surfing ability. Being able to have a low center of gravity and a strong core makes my surfing more powerful and stable. Surfing is a very high impact sport, so it’s very beneficial to train your muscles to reduce the force of impact which will help with injury prevention.
Q. What are your favorite songs on your workout playlist these days?
A. Anything by Drake! His music gets me pumped up for workouts. :)
Q. Aside from being a surfing superstar, what do you do for fun?
A. Aside from surfing, traveling is a huge part of my life. I love visiting other countries competing. When I’m not traveling, I love to cook, drink coffee, and spend time with my family and friends!
Q. What advice do you have for people wanting to kick-start a healthy lifestyle or to pump up their nutrition?
A. My advice for people wanting to kickstart a healthy lifestyle is to start with one goal per week until it becomes a lifestyle habit. Whether it’s finding healthier food options or exercising/activities they enjoy doing... :)
